The Hunt

for October

The Chicago Cubs officially lost their right fielder, the Toronto Blue Jays lost their shortstop, and both the Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals lost another starting pitcher. And that was just on Tuesday afternoon. By Tuesday night, the Houston Astros, too, experienced the familiar sight of a starting pitcher walking off the mound in pain.

The day before, the Cubs had also lost their closer and the Philadelphia Phillies had lost the entire left side of their infield. In the three days before that, the Detroit Tigers lost their biggest trade deadline acquisition, the New York Mets shut down a veteran starter’s rehab assignment and the Texas Rangers added a fourth multiple-time All-Star to their injured list.

It’s also unclear whether the New York Yankees’ best player can actually throw the ball effectively.
