Seth Meyers on Thursday reacted to the killing of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk by highlighting how gun violence is a “plague” on the United States.
“We desperately need reasonable gun safety laws to stop this epidemic of tragedy and pain. No matter the identity or ideology of these perpetrators, one thing is always constant: the guns,” said the “Late Night” host of such shootings.
“We must make it possible for children to go to school and for everyone to engage in public debate without the threat of gun violence looming over them.”
Meyers — who, like Stephen Colbert, had a somber open to his show that addressed the killing — pointed to Wednesday’s school shooting in Colorado, which occurred just two weeks after a deadly shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis.
The “Late Night” host went on to list multiple instances of political violence in recent memory.
