Queen Latifah shared how she’s reclaiming her power while experiencing menopause during a recent interview on “Today With Jenna & Friends.”
“One of the things that we love about you is that you always use your voice for good,” host Jenna Bush Hager said on a Wednesday episode while sitting down with the music icon, whose real name is Dana Owens. “And now you’re talking about something that all of us are gonna need to know about, which is menopause,” adding that when she was growing up, it wasn’t a topic her mother or grandmother talked about with her.
Latifah responded that menopause isn’t a subject that has been “discussed a lot.”
“Still a lot of people have a problem with saying the word,” she said. “This is something we gotta get comfortable with as women.”
The “U.N.I.T.Y” rapper said that menopause is not “taboo” and that “menopause care should not be a luxury,” and should be accessible to those who need it. “We’re all gonna feel it, and we’re all gonna go through it. Our hormones are gonna change as we age.”
