On the pretext of opposing the DMK, a few leaders are trying to destroy Dravidian politics, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader and MP Thol. Thirumavalavan said in Chennai on Thursday.

Speaking at the launch of the publication, ‘Caste Pride’, by Manoj Mitta, translated into Tamil as ‘Saathip Perumai’ by R. Vijayasankar, at Periyar Thidal, Mr. Thirumavalavan said: “If the leaders are opposing Dravidian politics, they are opposing the politics of social justice advocated by Ambedkar, Periyar and Jyothiba Phule. There is a need for a national perspective of Dravidian politics. The caste factor is not restricted to Tamil Nadu; it is a national phenomena.”

Pointing to rising discrimination, violence and untouchability based on caste, Mr. Thirumavalavan said: “We have accepted the Constitution. But we have to implement the Constitution to achieve equality in society. The Constitution is the tool for equality.”

The VCK leader said people who exhibit their caste pride fail to notice that their land, language, and culture are being destroyed by those who make new laws aimed at enslaving future generations. “The RSS and Sangh Parivar are promoting caste pride. We may have to struggle another 50 years to reverse the decline in ideological aspects in the country in the past 11 years of rule by the BJP. Lynching is common. They are torching entire neighbourhoods,” Mr. Thirumavalavan said.
