The Union Culture Ministry is organising the first-ever international conference on Indian manuscripts with the goal of preserving, digitising, decoding, and sharing the knowledge in these texts.

The conference “Reclaiming India’s Knowledge Legacy through Manuscript Heritage” will be held in the national capital from September 11 to 13 as part of the Gyan Bharatam Mission, announced by the government earlier this year.

Over 1,100 participants from across the country will attend the conference. The event aims to bring together over scholars, experts, institutions, and cultural practitioners to support the Gyan Bharatam Mission’s goals of systematic survey, documentation, conservation, and digitisation of India’s vast manuscript heritage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the conference on September 12.

The Gyan Bharatam Mission was announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the budget speech and then by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech.
