A Maoist carrying a reward of ₹8 lakh was killed by security forces in an anti-Maoist operation in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district, the police said on Wednesday evening.Senior Superintendent of Police (Kanker) I.K. Elisela said the operation was launched on September 7, 2025 by a joint team of the Kanker District Reserve Guards and the Border Security Force in the forests along the Kanker-Narayanpur border.“During the operation, on September 9, a police-Naxalite encounter took place in the hilly forest area of village Gedabeda under Partapur police station. During the search of the incident site after the encounter, the body of one male Maoist along with a walkie-talkie set and a .303 rifle were recovered,” he said.Inspector-General of Police (Bastar Range) P. Sundarraj said the deceased Maoist had been identified as Masa, who was carrying a reward of ₹8 lakh. He appealed to Maoists “to accept the reality that Maoism is on the verge of ending”.“Now the time has come for them to abandon the path of violence and join the mainstream by taking advantage of the government’s rehabilitation policy.
