A woman descended from a notorious pirate has launched a bid to receive her share of his £60million fortune.

Viki López-Love 52, has traced her family tree back to a 17th century pirate named John Stockwell - who was also known as Long John or Black-Jack Stockwell.

The sailor was a crew member of Dundee-born privateer Captain William Kidd, who was initially appointed by the British authorities to tackle piracy.

But after a change in the law, he himself was denounced as a pirate - and it is believed, buried his treasure around the world in a bid to hide his loot.

His crewmate Stockwell meanwhile settled in London and bought land with his pirate fortune - thought to be worth around £64million in today's money - but then set sail again and never returned.
