Families living in a historical village have been left furious amid fresh plans to house migrants at the former Dambusters base.
The iconic World War II mission to destroy German dams with 'bouncing bombs' was launched at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire in 1943 and changed the course of the war.
But the pivotal base has now been touted once again as a detention centre for asylum seekers, as the Labour government aims to stop using hotels as accommodation for those arriving, following major backlash across the country.
It was previously part of a £50m Conservative plan to house 2,000 migrants at the site - later reduced to 800 - which was eventually scrapped by Labour in 2024 as it did not provide 'value for money'.
And as Prime Minister Keir Starmer struggles to get a grip on the migrant crisis, defence minister Luke Pollard confirmed this week that accommodation centres could be set up on Ministry of Defence land, including potentially Scampton.
