Allbirds shoes consistently appear on HuffPost lists of beloved footwear, ranging from sneakers to walking shoes and beyond. The brand’s signature cushy and breathable construction makes them a must-have for anyone who wants supportive, comfortable kicks. Along with launching an updated version of the brand’s Wool Runners, Striders and Wool Striders, Allbirds is debuting the Remix Collection today, and it takes everything you love about two of the brand’s popular styles and gives them a seriously sustainable makeover.
The Remix Collection includes two different shoes, the Runner NZ Remix and the Cruiser Remix. Both were designed to give a second chance at life to manufacturing waste that would otherwise end up in landfills.
They are created using textile and midsole waste, including reclaimed foam scraps from athletic footwear manufacturing via Blumaka, a company that manufactures insoles from recycled foam. This process uses 99% less water and emits 65% fewer carbon emissions than traditional production, all while staying true to Allbirds’ durable, comfortable and high-performing designs.
The Remix Collection sneakers are the first shoes to use textile-to-textile recycled materials using a unique hydrothermal recycling process that gives the shoes a luxurious look and feel. With the help of textile recycling company Circ, Allbirds can take discarded fabrics like old T-shirts and turn them into the soft, durable yarn that comprises the shoes’ uppers.
