In all, 3,446 metric tonnes (MT) of vegetables were procured through 2,000 Onam markets this festival season, the Agriculture Department said. The procurement was carried out from September 1 to 4. As much as 2,510 MT were directly procured from farmers. The lion’s share of the procurement price, ₹10.05 crore, has been distributed to the farmers, the department said. The Onam markets of the Agriculture Department were organised under the aegis of the Krishi Bhavans, the Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council, Keralam (VFPCK), and the Kerala State Horticultural Products Development Corporation (Horticorp).
