Horrific video of a young Ukrainian refugee being stabbed to death by a deranged criminal as she sat on a train has fueled mounting support for Donald Trump's plans to send troops into crime-ravaged cities.
Iryna Zarutska, 23, was sitting quietly on a train in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 22 when she was stabbed three times in the neck and killed by a man sitting behind her, security video shows, in what appeared to be a random attack.
Her death recently surged into the spotlight after Republican lawmakers and sympathetic influencers promoted the graphic CCTV video last weekend.
In the days since, a fundraiser set up to support her family has raised more than $110,000 (£81,000). It says 'Ira' had only recently arrived in the United States, 'seeking safety from the war and hoping for a new beginning'.
An obituary said she fled Putin's war in Ukraine to start anew in America with her mother and siblings. Those who knew her said the Art and Restoration graduate 'shared her creativity generously', dreamed of becoming a veterinary assistant and enjoyed adventuring. She was determined and loved to learn, they said.
