A man has died after plunging 30ft into an empty silo at a factory.

A huge emergency response rushed to a factory in Speke, Merseyside at around 7.20pm yesterday after a 45-year-old male had fallen in an 'industrial incident'.

Fire crews said he had tumbled 'approximately 30 feet' into the silo - a cylindrical structure that is typically used for storing bulk materials such as grain, coal and cement.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service sent a hazardous response crew into the building to test for unusual activity but gas readings indicated normal levels.

A vast police cordon was deployed around the area as officers managed the incident, which is now being investigated by detectives.
