The 'extraordinary' bond between a beloved surfer who lost his life in a freak shark attack and his teenage daughter has been revealed in new photos.
Mercury 'Merc' Psillakis, 57, was attacked by a large shark 100metres off the shore of Dee Why Beach, in Sydney's north, on Saturday morning.
His death immediately sparked an outpouring of grief from his local community.
Mercury's wife Maria, their daughter Freedom, and other relatives shared an emotional statement through NSW Police on Tuesday afternoon.
'Merc is deeply loved by everyone who knows him,' it read.
