Nepal protests: At least 14 killed, Army deployed to control situation

At least 14 people have been reported killed as police fired at protesters, mostly Nepal’s tech-savvy Generation Z, on Monday (September 8, 2025) who took over the streets of Kathmandu and other major cities to protest against corruption and the government’s recent ban on social media platforms. As the protest escalated, demonstrators marched towards Nepal’s federal parliament building in New Baneshwor. Security forces reinforced barricades, but protesters broke through the police cordon and entered the parliament premises, chanting slogans against leaders, including Prime Minister K.P. Sharma ‘Oli’, and demanding he “leave the country.”

Bihar SIR hearing | Aadhaar should be treated as valid proof for SIR exercise, says Supreme Court

The Supreme Court directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to include Aadhaar as a valid proof for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar. The top court, however, made it clear that Aadhaar was not a proof of citizenship and the ECI is entitled to verify if the documents are genuine. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi passed the interim order while considering the response of political parties like the Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD), AIMIM and other petitioners on the poll panel’s note where it has submitted that 99.5% of the 7.24 crore electors in the draft electoral roll had filed their eligibility documents in the SIR exercise.
