Anxious villagers have written to Viscount Falmouth begging him not to sell his Cornish estate's land to developers for housing.

Residents in Playing Place, near Truro, say handing the land over would mean the area's 'unique cultural identity' could be 'lost forever'.

Luxury developers Legacy Properties are preparing to submit a planning application in the coming months which could see them build up to 70 houses on the greenery situated off the area's Old Coach Road.

Owned by Evelyn Boscawen, the 10th Viscount Falmouth, the field contains the remains of a plain-an-gwarry – a medieval amphitheatre which gives the village its name – and an Iron Age settlement.

And locals say putting them in the hands of developers would be at odds with the village's 'history, heritage and community safety'.
