A disgraced NHS surgeon who got a sexual thrill out of deliberately having his legs amputated used nearly £500,000 of compensation payouts to fund an enormous spending spree, we can reveal.
Dr Neil Hopper, 49, used dry ice to freeze his legs to the extent that they required amputation – then claimed he had developed sepsis following a family camping trip.
But secretly Hopper had a fetish around amputations and had been viewing extreme pornography in which men deliberately mutilated and even castrated themselves before hatching his disturbing plot.
And after receiving payouts totalling £466,653 on top of his ongoing doctor's salary of £150,000, he soon began burning his way through the settlement.
Among the luxury goods and services the vascular surgeon blew his cash on were a £100,000 watch, £255,000 on a house extension, £22,000 on a camping trailer and £15,000 on a luxury hot tub.
