Representatives of several communities on Sunday opposed the inclusion of Christian sub-castes in the draft caste list prepared by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes, alleging that the move was part of a “hidden agenda” of the State government to encourage conversions and divide Hindus.

The draft list of castes was released last month by the commission ahead of the socio-educational survey of the State population, and the BJP has taken exception to the inclusion of sub-castes, which, it argued, did not exist.
