More than 7,000 Palestinian children in Gaza under the age of five joined recovery programs for acute malnutrition in UNICEF-run clinics in two weeks last month, according to a Guardian report.

The total number of patients in the program is still being determined, but is expected to exceed 15,000 new patients, more than seven times the number of patients admitted in February 2025, the report said.

"The story is the same – a bowl a day from the community kitchen, almost always lentils or rice, shared among the family, parents skipping so children can eat. No nutrients. No other options – aid is scarce, and the market is far too expensive," UNICEF spokesperson Tess Ingram told The Guardian.
