Entering England's biggest new town feels like stepping foot into a model home. The newbuilds are pristine, pavements gleam and hedges are pruned to perfection.

At first, the lack of traffic in Northstowe is seemingly peaceful but the more you explore the maze of identical homes, the absence of residents and shops quickly becomes disturbing.

It has been eight years since the first 'pioneer' residents moved in and it is a far cry from the thriving eco-community of 26,000 people promised when plans were initially unveiled - there is still no town centre.

Luckily, desperate developers have come up with a solution - a 'meanwhile hub' where cafes, bars and shops will open, creating a temporary town centre for the next five years.

Residents, who have become so 'disillusioned' by the new town see the hub as another 'empty promise' and 'quick fix' to try and improve the 'soulless' and 'creepy' community.
