A surfer has been killed by a shark at a busy beach in Sydney's Northern Beaches.
The male was brought to shore by surfers at Dee Why beach just after 10am on Saturday.
Emergency workers remain at the scene, as witnessed believe the surfer's legs were mauled.
The beach's shark alarm and red flag ushered bathers to shore shortly after the attack, and two pieces of a surfboard were recovered from the water.
A witness told Daily Mail they saw a group of people 'crying in a circle' just metres from the water.
