Sept. 5 (UPI) -- A Maryland man found beginner's luck was on his side when he bought his first-ever Powerball ticket and scored a $50,000 prize.
The Suitland man told Maryland Lottery officials he decided to buy a ticket for the Aug. 30 Powerball drawing during a trip to Shore Stop on Romancoke Road in Stevensville.
"This is actually my first time playing," the player said.
He told lottery officials he looked at the big jackpot for the drawing and thought, "Why not?"
The ticket matched four of the first five numbers in the drawing, earning a $50,000 prize.
