One of three Brits accused of raping a local woman at their hotel in Croatia suffered serious facial injuries following a prison attack.

Ami Arifi, 29, Gezhim Xhafa, 28, and Sohqib Shakibi, 24, appeared before an investigating judge in July remanded in custody pending further investigations into the incident which took place in Split.

According to local reports, however, shortly after arriving at the Bilice prison, one of the defendant's jaw was broken by a detainee suspected of attempted murder.

He was then transferred to a hospital in Split where he underwent surgery, before being returned to the prison.

But the trio did not remain behind bars for long as on August 12, they were released after posting bail of £26,000 each and promising to respond to court summons, as per Dalmatinski Portal.
