Americans, it's safe to say, love their flag - so it was only a matter of time until they started sharing their views on the debate over flying the colours here in Britain.
Around half of US citizens have their very own Stars and Stripes at home, with almost a quarter flying it daily, according to polling by YouGov. Seven in 10 say it is an act of patriotism.
Flag-flyers are more likely to lean Republican than Democrat, and it is that cohort who have taken to social media to chip in their two cents on the debate over 'Operation Flying the Colours'.
That movement, as it has become known, was born out of recent protests at asylum hotels and the display of Palestinian flags in Birmingham in an apparent show of solidarity with Gaza.
But it has divided opinion between those who see it as a boon to national pride and those who say it has been tainted by emboldened elements of the far-right.
