Area of low pressure may turn into a tropical cyclone over waters off the Philippines, Observatory says

Hong Kong could experience windy and wet weather from the coming weekend under the influence of a low-pressure area that may become a tropical cyclone, according to the city’s weather forecaster.

The Hong Kong Observatory said on Thursday that the low-pressure area might turn into a tropical cyclone over the seas west of the Philippine island of Luzon.

While its intensity and movement were unclear, the low-pressure area had a higher chance of moving along the west coast of Guangdong and the vicinity of Hainan Island, the forecaster added.

“Under its influence, it will be windy with heavy squally showers and thunderstorms over the coast of Guangdong early next week,” it said.
