It used to be a little green oasis which brightened the days of motorists and pedestrians alike.
But residents in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, say their once plant-filled roundabout has been left resembling a 'c**p Stonehenge' after a stone-filled redesign by the local council.
The work by South Derbyshire District Council has seen a previously green roundabout filled with bedding flowers and hanging baskets replaced with large white stones and brown pebbles, along with rock-filled wire cages called gabions.
But the £8,000 project has left the Labour-run local authority on rocky ground as far as locals are concerned, who say the gravely roundabout now looks 'a mess'.
Residents have dubbed the new island a'carbuncle' and 'Swadhenge', after the famous prehistoric stone circle in Wiltshire.
