Afghanistan's former health minister who is staying in a migrant hotel after fleeing the Taliban has had his bid to stay in the UK rejected.

Feroz Ferozuddin, who has been recognised internationally for his work as a trauma surgeon, fled his homeland for fear of being tortured by the militant group in 2021.

He had worked to rebuild the public health system in Afghanistan and was an advocate for women's rights.

The 58-year-old came to the UK via Turkey and has been seeking refuge in Bournemouth, Dorset.

But his application to remain in the country has been refused as it was made after the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme closed. Mr Ferozuddin has appealed the decision.
