A travellers' site that received more than £116,000 of taxpayer money has left residents up in arms after shocking pictures reveal huge piles of rubbish on the land.

Residents near the site in Swansea have claimed that they can smell plastic from the rubbish being burned with fears that 'cancer-causing chemicals' are being released into the air.

Drone images from the site show huge piles of rubbish strewn across the site in Mill Stream Way, Llansamlet.

There also appeared to be charred remains of waste, and adjacent trees that showed signs of being fire damaged, WalesOnline reports.

Swansea Council has said 'investigations are ongoing' into the claims that rubbish, including plastic, is being burnt at the site.
