Nicola Sturgeon has made the Union ‘safe for a long time’, Boris Johnson has said.

The former Prime Minister said his old political foe had set back the independence cause with her record in office and leading the SNP through a financial scandal.

Mr Johnson, who stood down as an MP in 2023, also refused to rule out a political comeback and a return to Downing Street.

Speaking at an event in Edinburgh, the ex-Tory PM was asked about his relationship with the former First Minister, who infamously called him a ‘f****** clown’.

He said: ‘I won’t hear a word against her.
