Ex-GOP strategist Stuart Stevens ripped Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Monday after she claimed that Los Angeles “wouldn’t be standing today” if not for Donald Trump deploying National Guard troops to the city.

In an appearance on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Noem said Los Angeles “would have burned down” if not for the president, whose move was slammed by critics as an over the top reaction to mostly peaceful protests in the city against his immigration policies.

Stevens, in a post to X, wrote that Noem’s comments were “funny” until you recall that the president is “the idiot that Republicans entrusted in a key position to protect America.”

“When I was a Republican operative, we loved to label Dems as unpatriotic,” wrote Stevens, the chief strategist on Mitt Romney’s unsuccessful 2012 presidential campaign before joining the anti-Trump GOP group Lincoln Project.

“Which is what Dems should do. No Republican who voted to confirm this willfully ignorant fool can call themselves a patriot.”
