Taliban asks world for help in wake of deadly Afghanistan earthquake

Rescue teams scoured Afghanistan’s mountainous east for survivors on Tuesday, as the death toll from a strong earthquake rose to 1,411, a Taliban government spokesman said.

More than 3,000 people are injured, Zabihullah Mujahid said on social media.

Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities had earlier said the death toll was about 900.
