Vivian Tu isn’t here to shame anyone about money. She’s not interested in blaming people for not knowing what they never learned in school. Or judging them for doing what they could when they didn’t have much of a choice.

As the founder of Your Rich BFF and the author of “Rich AF: The Money Mindset That Will Change Your Life,” Tu’s goal is to make money understandable and normalize talking about it. “I’m here to cheer you on in your financial life,” she writes. “I’m here to teach you the rules rich people play by so we can beat them at their own game.”

Tu knows not everyone was born and raised knowing these rules. She wasn’t, growing up with frugal parents in an immigrant home. “I haven’t always been good with money. I had to learn how to be,” she writes.

Before she made her first million at age 27, became a financial literacy creator, and landed her book on The New York Times bestseller list, she was a junior trader on Wall Street fresh out of college who had help from a money mentor of her own. Now she’s paying it forward.

CNBC Make It put “Rich AF” on our first book club shortlist because, as Tu writes, “when we talk about money, everyone benefits.” If you haven’t had a chance to read, or could use a quick recap before you join us for Wednesday’s discussion in our private LinkedIn group, here are a few key takeaways.
