The Delhi High Court is set to pronounce on Tuesday (September 2, 2025) its verdict on bail pleas of activists Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam and others facing prosecution in a UAPA case linked to the alleged conspiracy behind the February 2020 riots.

A Bench of Justices Navin Chawla and Shalinder Kaur is scheduled to pass the order at 2:30 p.m. The bench reserved its order on July 9, 2025 after hearing the arguments on behalf of the prosecution and various accused.

Arguing on behalf of the Delhi police against the bail petitions of the accused, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, on July 9, 2025, told the Delhi High Court that those accused of acting against the nation must remain in jail until they are either convicted or acquitted.

The prosecution vehemently opposed the bail plea, saying it was not a case of spontaneous riots but a case where riots were planned well in advance with a sinister motive and well-thought-out conspiracy.
