The Home Office will text foreign students with a warning they will be kicked out of the country when their visas run out in Labour's latest desperate attempt to tackle soaring asylum claims.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper launched the new campaign today in response to what she called an 'alarming' rise in the number of international students arriving legally on student visas then claiming asylum when they expire.

The move is the latest of a string of announcements unveiled as part of Labour's asylum 'crackdown' following a wave of angry protests outside migrant hotels over the summer.

Ms Cooper has also suspended the ability of refugees to bring their partners and children to the UK, while Sir Keir Starmer has vowed to speed up the closure of taxpayer-funded hotels.

Yet the policy blitz was overshadowed by Ms Cooper admitting last night that no Channel migrants have been returned to France yet under its much-vaunted 'one in, one out' deal.
