A man accused of rape went on the run for two years after staging his own death, hiding in the wild and fleeing to Spain, a court has heard.
James Clacher, 57, is accused of raping two women - the first in Troon, South Ayrshire, in 2019 and the second in Glasgow in 2020.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges, lodging a special defence to claim any sex he had was consensual.
Clacher, a former gym boss, was first reported missing on May 31, 2022, while facing court proceedings, Sky News reported.
His car was said to be found abandoned later that day at a car park area in Argyll and Bute.
