South Western Railway (SWR) reported a remarkable performance in August 2025, registering gross revenue of ₹755 crore—marking a significant milestone in its operational history. Passenger earnings grew to ₹305 crore, with 14.5 million passengers carried, up from ₹264 crore and 13.4 million passengers in August 2024. Freight operations led the growth, contributing ₹418 crore, a sharp rise from ₹323 crore last year, backed by SWR’s best-ever August freight loading of 4.22 million tonnes (MT), reflecting a 26.3% year-on-year increase over the 3.35 MT recorded in August 2024.

Commodity-wise, Iron Ore remained the largest contributor with 1.68 MT (15.5% growth), followed by Steel at 0.941 MT (70.5% growth), Coal at 0.75 MT (22% growth), and RMSP at 0.23 MT, more than doubling with 108% growth. Fertilizer and Container traffic grew by 7% and 31.3% respectively, while Food grains saw a notable entry with 0.01 MT compared to nil last year. Additional freight volumes included 0.32 MT of Cement, 0.21 MT of Balance Other Goods, and 0.175 MT of Mineral Oil.
