Reeves admits Brits 'feel stuck' as poll finds 58% oppose tax rises

Rachel Reeves has admitted that Brits 'feel stuck' as a dire poll laid bare the crisis she faces.

The Chancellor is facing a brutal Budget reckoning this Autumn with warnings she has a black hole of up to £50billion to fill.

However, YouGov research has found that 58 per cent of the public do not believe tax increases would be justified. Even Labour supporters are marginally against boosting the burden.

Some 55 per cent said Keir Starmer should sack Ms Reeves - with only 16 per cent backing her staying in No11.

The bleak picture emerged as the PM moved to get a grip on economic policy after blunders by the Treasury over winter fuel allowance and benefits reforms.
