Teams of ex-Manchester United and Liverpool players led by Steven Gerrard and Rio Ferdinand set for Kai Tak Stadium clash on October 18
After Cristiano Ronaldo had to settle for playing at Hong Kong Stadium, a group of retired Manchester United and Liverpool stars have been granted an opportunity to perform in the city’s grander Kai Tak Stadium.
On Monday, a press release that was low on detail revealed Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard would captain teams of veterans in a “Red on Red: Gerrard 11 v Rio 11” match at the 50,000-capacity Kowloon venue, on October 18.
The most expensive tickets will cost HK$999 (around US$128), although there was a promise that nearly 20,000 seats would be priced at HK$500 or cheaper.
The release stated the match would be “presented by Pulse”, although there was no more information about the organiser’s identity. The Football Association of Hong Kong, China will support the event.
