Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, the world's leading genocide scholar's association has said.
A resolution has been passed stating that the legal criteria has been met to establish that the country is committing genocide in Gaza, the president of the International Association of Genocide Scholars said on Monday.
Of those who voted among the 500-member association, 86 per cent supported the resolution which declared 'Israel's policies and actions in Gaza meet the legal definition of genocide according to Article II of the United Nations Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (1948)'.
There was no immediate response from the Israeli foreign ministry.
Israel has strongly denied that its military campaign in Gaza, launched after Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, amounts to genocide, claiming it is self defence.
