The Met Office has today unveiled the official list of storm names for the 2024–25 season – and they include tributes to husbands, daughters, grandmothers, and even pets, following more than 50,000 public submissions.

Among the new names is Storm Dave, chosen by one contributor in honour of their 'beloved husband who can snore three times louder than any storm'.

The UK's national weather service revealed the updated naming list in collaboration with Met Éireann in Ireland and the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), with the aim of helping the public better understand and prepare for severe weather events.

The first storm of the season will be Storm Amy, followed by Bram and Chandra, as the list progresses alphabetically from September 2024 to August 2025.

Since storm naming began in 2015, the initiative has been credited with raising public awareness and encouraging preparation during high-impact weather events.
