Migrant numbers decline as Hong Kong people hear horror stories about the country of their former colonial masters
An anonymous post to the popular Hong Kong YouTube news channel Bastille Post may be considered culturally illuminating.
The news report, to which the post responded, said the UK Home Office disclosed that applications and arrivals from Hong Kong people under the BN(O) migration scheme have continued to decline since its introduction in 2021.
“Some people prefer to live in big houses, clean air, social equality, easy living, safe food and polite cities,” the sarcastic post says. “Some people prefer to live a hot, crowded, pressurised lifestyle, go north to dine on foods with no quality guarantee or protection, living like zombies in crowded subway trains.”
Actually, British houses in big cities are notoriously small, and there are now “cluster flats”, which are a lot like Hong Kong’s nano-flats and partitioned flats.
