Israel will honor Miriam Adelson, owner of Israel Hayom who praised U.S. Jewish support for Trump's GOP, and Matthias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer, the German media giant known for its staunchly pro-Israel stance and the 'Bibileaks' scandal
Israel's President Isaac Herzog announced on Sunday that Israeli-U.S. right-wing megadonor Miriam Adelson and German media mogul Matthias Döpfner, known for promoting a pro-Israel line in his outlets, will be awarded the Israeli Presidential Medal of Honor for their "unique contribution" to the country.
Adelson, owner of Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom and formerly associated with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, maintains close ties with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Herzog said, "Together with her late husband Sheldon Adelson, she made immense contributions to projects vital to the Jewish people and Israel," noting her role in advocating for the release of Israeli hostages.
On a recent podcast, Adelson expressed encouragement over the number of American Jews who voted Republican in the last election: "They are starting to understand that the other side won't protect Israel. The Trump Administration is Israel's protector."
