Latest cases involves a woman who travelled to Foshan in Guangdong province, as health authorities urge schools to boost mosquito prevention
Hong Kong recorded a new imported case of Chikungunya fever involving a woman who travelled to Foshan, in Guangdong province, bringing the total to 13.
Edwin Tsui Lok-kin, controller of the Centre for Health Protection, urged schools to follow the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department’s anti-mosquito guidelines as full-time teaching resumes next week, to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases on campus.
“Although the number of new Chikungunya fever cases in Foshan in Guangdong province has continued to decline over the past few weeks, members of the public should be aware that many countries worldwide have experienced Chikungunya fever outbreaks this year,” Tsui warned.
A spokesman for the Centre for Health Protection said that a 27-year-old woman who had travelled to Foshan in Guangdong province between August 15 and 17 developed a rash last Sunday after returning to the city.
