Forget the likes of Gary, Steve or Dave – Muhammad is now officially the go-to name for working class boys, analysis shows.
Last year approximately 1.9% of all boys born in England and Wales were named after the founder of Islam.
Yet Government figures breaking down names by socioeconomic status suggest this stood at 7.5% among working class parents.
Muhammad was followed by Noah (2.9%), Mohammed (2.1%), Arlo (1.9%) and Theo (1.8%), according to the Daily Mail's number-crunching of data held by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Another version of the Islamic name, Mohammad, ranked ninth (1.3%).
