Former Wimbledon champion wins 6-1, 6-2

Rybakina hitting form after reuniting with ex-coach

Emma Raducanu has spent the past few months diligently working on improving the quality of her game in order to irritate the best players in the world, but another meeting with one of the elite only illustrated how much more she has to progress.

In what has become a painfully familiar experience for the British No 1, Raducanu was largely reduced to being a spectator in her own tennis match in the face of an imperious attacking performance from the 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, who demolished Raducanu 6-1, 6-2 to reach the fourth round of the US Open.

Considering her positive preparation, Raducanu had good reason to hope that things may be slightly different this time. She arrived in this match as confident as she could be, having lost six games in her first two matches while serving well and dictating the baseline with authoritative tennis.
