Aug. 29 (UPI) -- President Donald Trump revoked Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris, canceling security issued by former President Joe Biden.
Trump canceled extended protection for Harris in a letter to the Department of Homeland Security Thursday seen by CNN as NBC News and USA Today confirmed the news citing a senior adviser to Harris and a senior White House aid respectively.
"You are hereby authorized to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, for the following individual, effective Sept. 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris," the letter said.
While former presidents receive lifetime Secret Service protection, former vice presidents can receive six months of protection as per federal law, which for Harris ended on July 21. However, Biden had extended her protection for an additional year before leaving office.
