The Anakkampoyil-Kalladi-Meppadi tunnel road, the construction of which is being inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday (August 31), is an eagerly-awaited project that will not only herald a fundamental shift in road connectivity between Kozhikode and Wayanad but is also poised to reshape the economic and social landscape of Malabar.

The Thamarassery ghat road, with its hairpin bends and frequent traffic snarls, has been the lifeline for this region. The mudslide that rendered the ghat road unmotorable over the past two days served as a stark reminder of the need for an alternative, other than the Kuttiady ghat road linking Kozhikode and Wayanad districts.
