Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka needed 96 minutes to dispatch Polina Kudermetova, while elite Americans also overwhelmed second-round foes on Day 4 of the U.S. Open.
Kudermetova earned a break in the first set, but her favored Belarusian counterpart stormed back for a 7-6(4), 6-2 triumph Wednesday in Flushing, N.Y. The 25th-ranked Russian went 0 for 8 on the remainder of her break point chances.
"I'm just trying to stay aggressive," Sabalenka said on the ESPN broadcast. "I'm trying to fight for every point, and I know that every point can be a key moment of the set.
"I'm just trying to stay strong and I'm just trying to play aggressive."
