Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey has been accused of disrespecting King Charles by boycotting a state banquet for Donald Trump next month.

Following an invitation by His Majesty, the US President is due to arrive in Britain for an historic second state visit between September 17 and 19.

But Sir Ed has announced he will be declining an invitation to the dinner set to take place during Mr Trump's trip.

The Lib Dem leader said he would not be attending in protest at the US President's failure to put pressure on Israel to stop the crisis in Gaza.

The Tories accused Sir Ed of 'appalling judgement' and 'an act of deep disrespect' to the Royal Family.
