California’s Trump-trolling Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) suggested Wednesday that President Donald Trump is already eyeing an unconstitutional stay in office, and claimed he has the MAGA merch to prove it.

Speaking with Politico’s Christopher Cadelago at the news outlet’s summit, Newsom argued Trump doesn’t want another presidential election and offered up the “two dozen ‘Trump 2028’ hats his folks keep sending me” as evidence.

Cadelago pressed Newsom, a potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidate, on whether he believed Trump will run again, even though the Constitution prohibits him from doing so. Trump has repeatedly floated the idea of extending his stay in the White House beyond two terms.

Newsom quipped: “Who spends $200 million on a ballroom at their home and then leaves the house?”

The line drew laughs from the crowd, but the governor quickly warned: “This is serious, guys. This is serious.”
