Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) president Anbumani Ramadoss on Thursday (August 28, 2025) urged the Union and State governments to immediately implement stimulus measures to prevent industrial decline and job losses following the steep 50% tariff on Indian goods imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
In a statement, the PMK leader said with a 50% tariff, the price of Indian products in the U.S. market has gone up. On the other hand, readymade garments, footwear, and jewellery imported from other Asian countries such as Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Cambodia attract tariffs of less than 20%, making them significantly cheaper. As a result, American traders have stopped purchasing Indian goods.
